Function
- binds to actin & affects structure of the cytoskeleton
- modulates polymerization of actin inhibits it at high but enhances it at low concentrations
- by binding to PIP2, inhibits formation of IP3 & diacylglycerol
- occurs in many kinds of cells as a complex with monomeric actin in a 1:1 ratio
Structure
belongs to the profilin family
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- highly expressed in brain, skeletal muscle & kidney
- less strongly expressed in heart, placenta, lung & liver
