phosphatase-2A 55 kD regulatory subunit B alpha; PP2A subunit B-B-alpha isoform; PP2A subunit B,-B55-alpha isoform; PP2A subunit B-PR55-alpha isoform; PP2A subunit B-R2-alpha isoform (PPP2R2A)

Function
- several forms of phosphatase 2A B subunit encoded by separate genes are found complexed with a single catalytic & A subunit
- B regulatory subunit might modulate substrate selectivity & catalytic activity, & also might direct the localization of the catalytic enzyme to a particular subcellular compartment
- PP2A-B subunit appears to suppress the activity of PP2A
- ceramide activates heterotrimeric PP2A, but not PP2A-catalytic monomer or PP2A-cat/PP2A-A heterodimer
- binding of ceramide is suggested to inhibit PP2A-B inhibition of PP2A
Structure
- N-terminus is blocked
- belongs to the phosphatase 2A regulatory subunit B family
- contains 7 WD repeats
Expression
In all tissues examined
