Introduction
3 peptides derived from common precursor, FMRFamide-related peptides precursor
- neuropeptide RFRP-1 (neuropeptide NPSF)
- neuropeptide RFRP-2
- neuropeptide RFRP-3 (neuropeptide NPVF)
Function
- neuropeptide RFRP-1 acts as a potent negative regulator of gonadotropin synthesis & secretion
- neuropeptide RFRP-1 & RFRP-3 inhibit forskolin-induced cAMP formation.
- RFRP-2 has no inhibitory activity
- neuropeptide RFRP-1 induces secretion of prolactin in rats
- neuropeptide RFRP-3 blocks morphine-induced analgesia
Structure
- belongs to the FARP (FMRFamide related peptide) family
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- isoform 1 is specifically expressed in the retina
- neuropeptides RFRP-1 & RFRP-3 are detected in hypothalamus
