Function
- acyltransferase using diacylglycerol & fatty acyl CoA as substrates
- catalyzes terminal & only committed step in triacylglycerol synthesis
- synthesis & storage of intracellular triglycerides
- cytosolic lipid accumulation
- inhibited by niacin
acyl-CoA + 1,2-diacylglycerol <--> CoA + triacylglycerol
Compartment
endoplasmic reticulum membrane
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- expressed in liver & white adipose tissue > mammaray gland, testis, peripheral blood leukocytes.
Pathology
- expressed in sebaceous glands of normal skin but decreased exrpression in psoriatic skin
