Function

  • UDPGTs are of major importance in the conjugation & subsequent elimination of potentially toxic xenobiotics & endogenous compounds
  • displays activity toward several classes of xenobiotics, including:
    • simple phenolic compounds
    • 7-hydroxylated coumarins
    • flavonoids
    • anthraquinones
    • certain drugs & their hydroxylated metabolites
  • catalyzes glucuronidation of endogenous estrogens & androgens
UDP-glucuronate + acceptor
              <-->
UDP + acceptor beta-D-glucuronoside
