Function
- reverses the normal flow of glycerolipid biosynthesis by phosphorylating diacylglycerol back to phosphatidic acid
- requires phosphatidylserine for maximal activity
ATP + 1,2-diacylglycerol = ADP + 1,2-diacyl-sn-glycerol 3-phosphate
Structure
- belongs to the eukaryotic diacylglycerol kinase family
- contains 1 DAGKc domain
- contains 2 EF-hand domains
- contains 2 phorbol-ester/DAG-type Zn+2 fingers
Compartment
- cytoplasm, membrane
- can be loosely bound to the membranes
Alternative splicing
Expression
- predominantly expressed in retina
- expressed at much lower level in the brain
- other tissues contain extremely low levels of DGK-gamma
