Introduction
Surgical removal of the cataractous lens from the lens capsule without concurrent removal of the lens capsule. In this procedure, the anterior capsule of the lens is removed, the nucleus of the cataract is expressed, & the residual cortical material is aspirated from the eye. The posterior capsule is left intact, & an intraocular lens is placed in the capsular bag, which restores vision.
