Indications
- chronic middle ear effusion due to obstruction of the eustachian tube by the adenoids[1]
Contraindications
- recurrent upper respiratory tract infections[1]
Procedure
- surgical procedure to remove the adenoids (lymphoid tissue in the nasopharynx).
Complications
- 11% increased risk for upper respiratory tract infections[2]
- 2% increased risk for infections with adenotonsillectomy[2]
