  • developmental
  • acquired

Epidemiology

Pathology

  • cerebral lesions in permanent acquired form

Clinical manifestations

  • interruptions of normal speech by involuntary repetition
  • prolongation or arrest of uttered letters or syllables
  • acquired form (differs from developmental form)
    • prolongation & blocks are restricted to the initial syllables
    • no adaptation
    • not accompanied by grimacing
    • may be transient or permanent
