A cavity or channel underlying a wound that involves an area larger than the visible surface of the wound.

Etiology

• osteomyelitis

Pathology

• chronic drainaige from a sinus tract suggests underlying infection, especially osteomyelitis

Laboratory

• bone biopsy & culture

Radiology

• MRI is unnecessary in setting of chronic draining sinus tract
