Course
- in the hand, the radial artery enters the deep plane & forms the deep palmar arch, which anastomoses with the deep branch of the ulnar artery
- it also contributes to the superficial palmar arch

Clinical significance
- the radial artery & ulnar artery connect through both the superficial palmar arch & deep palmar arch, providing collateral circulation
