Introduction
Useful in evaluation of dizziness. Warm & cold water or air are applied to the tympanic membranes, & the slow phase velocities of the resultant nystagmus from the right & left ears are compared. A diminished velocity from one side indicates hypofunction or canal paresis. The inability to induce nystagmus with ice water denotes a dead labyrinth.
