keratosis nicotina palatini (nicotine leukoplakia)

Pathology

• leukoplakia resulting from pipe or cigar smoking
• rarely undergoes malignant transformation
• regresses with cessation of smoking
• confined to the palate

Clinical manifestations

• appears as diffuse whitish thickening of the mucous membranes studded with multiple red dots (openings of salivary glands)
