Etiology
Pathology
- normally only 10-15% of hairs are telogen hairs
- in telogen effluvium, 30-60% of hairs are telogen hairs
- in anagen effluvium, 100% are telogen hairs
Clinical manifestations
- an abrupt loss of actively growing hairs in response to a stressor
- 90% of hairs are generally actively growing, thus anagen effluvium is diffuse
- it generally occurs 1-4 weeks after the insult
