Etiology

• idiopathic

Epidemiology

• 2% of upper GI bleeds

Pathology

• bleed from Dieulafoy's artery
  • 6 cm above gastroesophageal junction
  • proximal stomach along the lesser curvature
  • submucosal arterioles intermittently protrude through the mucosa
  • isolated pumping arteriole without mass or ulcer
