Indications

• assessment of post-transplant kidney
• renal donor evaluation*
• urinary obstruction (pre & post furosemide)
• renal infarct (presence or absence of blood flow)
• gold standard for measuring GFR & renal plasma flow

* split renal-function study evaluates function of each kidney

Disadvantages

• expensive
• lack of widespread availability
• radioactivity exposure
• operator technical difficulties
