Indications
- in connection with prostatectomy for prostate cancer
- to produce sterility in men
Procedure
- excision of a segment of the vas deferens
- California state law requires that any patient wishing a vasectomy must 1st attend an informational class prior to the procedure
Complications
- 5 year risk of pregnancy after vasectomy is about 1%[3]
- either no association or weak association between vasectomy &
- prostate cancer
- not associated with increased risk of prostate cancer[4][5]
- 0.6% absolute increase in prostate cancer risk[5]
- no associations between vasectomy & incident high-grade, advanced, or fatal prostate cancer[5]
- testicular cancer[4]
- prostate cancer
