Introduction

An antibiotic produced by fermentation of Amycolatopis orientalis subspecies lurida, comprising two substances ristocetin A & ristocetin B.

Ristocetin-induced agglutination of platelets requires a cofactor found in serum. That cofactor is von-Willebrand's factor (vWF). As a pharmaceutical agent:
