mixed hearing loss

Etiology

• new onset conductive hearing loss in patients with sensorineural hearing loss
  • cerumen impactation or middle ear infection in elderly patient with presbycusis

Diagnostic procedures

• audiography
  • air & bone conducted hearing diminished
  • air conduction significantly less than bone conduction

Management

• treat reversible causes
• referral to otolaryngologist as needed
