Afferents
- relays information about sense of pain & temperature
- spinal nucleus of CN 5 sends fibers caudal from the pons to the brain stem before relaying sensory information of pain & temperature to the thalamus via the trigeminal lemniscus
- lesser sensory input also occurs from the vagus nerve.
