optic groove (prechiasmatic sulcus)

Introduction

A groove on the upper surface of the sphenoid bone, oriented transversely between the optic canals.

It is bounded posteriorly by the tuberculum sellae & anteriorly by the sphenoid limbus.

It forms in relationship to the optic chiasm.
