Introduction
In dermatology:
- a macroscopic term referring to fluid-filled raised area > 1 cm across; a large blister
- bullae may be tense or flaccid
- may be on a base of normal or erythematous skin
Etiology
- friction blister
- contact dermatitis (posion oak, poison ivy)
- 2nd degree burns
- bullous impetigo
- pemphigus
- pemphigoid
- toxic epidermal necrolysis
- Stevens-Johnson syndrome
- disseminated Varicella
- Herpes simplex infection
- ischemia (coma bullae)
- diabetic bullae
- porphyria
- bullous dermatosis of hemodialysis
